I am in my third year of the Mechatronics Engineering Co-op Program at McMaster University. I have taken a variety of courses such as embedded systems, engineering mechanics, and professional software development. The program is focused on embedded system design and is directly applicable to my interest in robotics and smart kinematic systems. I have co-op expereinces that have given me a chance to apply the knowledge I have gained in industry
Over the course of my studies and personal projects, I have used a variety of programming languages, tools and frameworks depending on the task at hand. In classroom environments I have extensively used C/C++, Python, Java and Matlab languages. I have expereince using these same languages in my co-op placments. In my spare time I am also learning the fundamentals of web design, including HTML, CSS, Javascript and frameworks like Bootstrap.
I am passionate about hardware design and I am beginning to work with embedded microcontrollers, and the manufacturing of supporting PCBs. One of my recent projects include a Sumobot for the McMaster 2015 Competition. I designed a PCB using the ATMEga 328 microcontroller to control various sensors and motors. The board is designed to attach directly to the aluminum chassis of the robot.
I finished my first co-op at Nahanni Steel where I operated a variety of manufacturing machines and steel presses. I recieved an Outstanding rating and produced a record 2381 parts in a single shift. My latest co-op took place at EnerMotion Inc where I worked as a Junior Hardware Engineer. I worked primarily in the electrical department but also worked closely with the mechanical team to ensure that the electrical system was well intergrated with the mechanical hardware. I did analysis and soldering of PCB's, wiring of control boxes and basic machining for prototype units.
Of course not all of my time is spent doing Mechatronics related projects. Another one of my passions is playing and creating music. I have been a guitar player for about 7 years, and have also started teaching for the Guitar Club at McMaster. I mostly play and listen to rock genres, and artists such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the Arkells.
